DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

A Detroit teen is recovering after she says she escaped from kidnappers who raped her. That teen worries for her friend who she says was also kidnapped and was not able to escape.

The teen and her mother say they were not getting along days before the incident, and when the girl did not come home from school on Friday, the mother just thought it was a case of teenage rebellion.

"I don't know what was going through my head - just worried, more worried about her, just praying," the victim's mother tells Fox 2's Andrea Isom. "I just thought that she went to spend Sweetest Day with her boyfriend and that she would be home Sunday."

When her daughter didn't return on Sunday, her mother called Detroit police. It wasn't just her 15-year-old daughter's disappearance that had her worried, it was also the text messages coming from her missing child's cell phone.

"We get the text messages Saturday: 'Mom, I need help, I don't know where I'm at.' That scared me right there," she says. The text messages, even phone calls now, kept coming and the mother says they became more evil and violent.

"We're going to kill her, we're going to rape her," the mother says, describing what the texts read. Then it came down to money in exchange for the 15-year-old Mumford High School student's safe return. "They just asked for ransom; they keep calling," the mother says.

Detroit Police Sgt. Marcellus Ball took over the case. "We had the FBI working with us; we had the violent crimes task force working with us; we had criminal investigations unit working with us; we had other entities working with us as well. Child abuse, sex crimes - all of this was a consorted effort to find out what happened to this child," Ball shares.

The teenage victim shares with Isom and Ball how she escaped: "I told the girl, 'I'm about to sneak up there and see if he's gone.' So he was gone and I took my phone and just ran to this old lady's house and I called my best friend and I went to her house."

The victim says the night she and her friend disappeared, some men pulled up in a car next to them around midnight and forced them into the vehicle, took them to an abandoned house and raped them in the basement. She says the men had masks on their faces.

"If everything that she said is true, and if so, we have to go out and find these guys that did this to her," Ball says.

Police are interviewing the victim now trying to gather any details on the location of the men and, possibly, her friend who she says was also taken.

Another Mumford High School student was also reported missing a last week, Jasmine Thomas. Detroit Police confirm Thomas was found safe this weekend in Akron, Ohio.
