Matt Barnes: It's A Taste Of All Of Our Cultures

LA Clipper Matt Barnes has a lot going on this weekend that's NOT basketball related. He will be at the Sports Authority this Saturday in support of athletes versus cancer...and co-hosting a charity art show for at the MB Abram Gallery. He's also gearing up for a new NBA season with a new coach and a new home court, sort of. Steve and Maria asked Matt about new head coach Doc Rivers and he compared Doc to a coaching legend.

"He has one of those presences, when I speak about Doc, that I felt around Phil (Jackson)...when he's not there you can tell and when he is there you absolutely feel his presence. Doc is our leader and I think everybody knows that, Chris (Paul) and Blake (Griffin) are our superstars but Doc is definitely our leader."

Steve asked Matt about the new controversy surrounding Clippers home games at Staples Center. Banners featuring Clippers players are now hung from the rafters..no Lakers banners, no retired Laker jerseys. Matt's take?

"With all due respect to the people who earned the banners and the retired jerseys...when we're playing at Staples Center it's our home court, we play on the Clippers floor. When they're playing, they don't play on the Clippers floor...so when it's our home field we want more of a little home court advantage...when it's their court they do what they want, when it's our court we do what we want."

Steve also brought up the time Matt played for Orlando...they were hosting the Lakers and he was set to inbound the ball...Kobe was guarding Matt and he faked throwing the ball at Bryant's face...he never flinched. Maria asked if there was any fallout afterwards.

"It was a physical game the whole game...we've always competed against each other ever since I got in the league and we have the utmost respect for each other and he was actually one of the first people I spoke to when I became a free agent out of Orlando to get me to the Lakers."

1) He is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

2) After a college career at UCLA, Barnes was a second-round draft choice of the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2002 NBA Draft. He was then traded that summer along with Nick Anderson to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Wesley Person, but was cut that October. He made his NBA debut with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2004, and signed with the Sacramento Kings later that year.

3) On July 23, 2010, he signed with the Lakers. He signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in September 2012. On October 31, 2012, the NBA suspended Barnes for one game. In June 2013, Barnes was named Defensive Player of the Year for the Clippers.

Matt will be at the Sports Authority this Saturday from three to four in support of Athletes Versus Cancer.

On Sunday, matt will co-host a charity art show for "Athletes Versus Cancer" at the MB Abram Gallery in downtown LA. It runs from 6 to 9.
