Movie Critic Matt Atchity: I Am The Rotten Tomato

Posted: Updated:

Two big movies open this weekend. One is directed by Ridley Scott and features an A list award winning cast. The other is the star of "Jackass" pulling pranks dressed like an old man. Which one do you think critics like more? Matt Atchity tells us surprisingly, "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa" is getting the better reviews.

"You would think that a movie like this the critics aren't going to like it...what trumps all the stupidity is that this movie is very funny."

Matt says the story is similar to "Borat", a fake narrative mixed with real situations and reactions. But the big difference is that Knoxville and company keep it light.

"They're committed to this in exactly the way Sasha Baron Cohen is. Now the difference here is...there's very little social commentary. Which means it's not as mean spirited as the Borat movies are...the brunt of the joke is absolutely Johnny Knoxville."

Critics are calling "The Counselor" a joke without the laughs. The movie was directed by Ridley Scott and features stars like Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, and Cameron Diaz. Reviews for this one aren't pretty.

"This one is a mess...this movie is not a good mix of the style of Cormac McCarthy's writing and Ridley Scott's directing style...with a pedigree like this you want something that's just an out of the park grand slam...the styles don't mix, there's too much style for kinda the sparseness of dialogue."

Matt Atchity is the editor in chief for the pop-culture website "Rotten Tomatoes." He also hosts a new show on Sirius XM called "Rotten Tomatoes Radio."

The weekly one hour call in show airs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

‘Rotten Tomatoes TV Zone' is up now on the Rotten Tomatoes website.
