Long Beach boardwalk fully reopens

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A ribbon was cut and the 2.2-mile Long Beach boardwalk was officially opened Friday. Nearly a year ago, Superstorm Sandy's relentless surge destroyed the boardwalk.

The new boardwalk is made up of structurally sound materials including sustainable tropical hardwoods and concrete. It also features a retaining wall that will protect it from severe storms.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Sen. Chuck Schumer along with other officials put in the final board into a boardwalk that locals have been waiting to see come back.

While the new boardwalk is looking good, some New York residents are still waiting for more funding to come in so they can fully rebuild.
