No more letters from Mrs. Claus in Green Valley

Posted: Updated:

Children in southern Arizona may not get a letter from Mrs. Claus this year as the woman who helps Mrs. Claus respond to Santa letters is not being allowed to do it anymore!

For the last 25 years, Jackie DeHart and her husband Ted received letters addressed to "Santa Claus, North Pole" from kids all across southern Arizona.

"I love you, I believe in you.. I would love to have this for Christmas," said Jackie.  "Sometimes I'd have a whole page of toy lists they want."

It's a hobby and tradition that the two of them had.  Even after her husband passed away, Jackie continued writing back to the children.

"This is something Ted and I did together and it was still the same thing I had holding onto him," she said.

But just last week, Jackie received a letter from the Green Valley post office, telling her to stop sending letters.

Why?  Safety concerns.

"Evidently, they're worried about people picking them up and getting the addresses," said Jackie.  "I think it's horrible.  I man just like a part of my being.. you get to a point where you have to be valuable to somebody for something.  The Santa Claus part is something missing.  It's just a big void in my life now."

But she's most worried that this will spoil Christmas for some of those children.
