Ryder's recovery: Abused pit bull gets a second chance

PHOENIX -

In a horrible case of animal abuse, this pit bull was found starved and emaciated in a Phoenix home. We're happy to update you that Ryder the dog is one step closer to finding a forever home.

This is Ryder now. She's been recovering at the Arizona Humane Society after she was found in terrible conditions nearly a month ago.

The dog's chain was so tight that only her hind legs could touch the ground. She had no water and her bones could be seen under the skin, and was so weak she couldn't walk without falling down.

Ryder has since gained about 25 pounds and is heading into foster care, where she'll remain on a strict feeding schedule and continue to develop social skills.

Ryder is expected to make a full recovery, and should be ready for adoption in about a month.

The dog's owner was arrested for animal cruelty.
