PHOENIX -

Phoenix Fire officials say a 4-year-old who was playing with matches started a fire at an apartment near 16th Street and Thunderbird.

About 7 p.m., firefighters responded to the area and found smoke coming from the first floor of a large apartment complex.

The fire was isolated to a closet and firefighters were able to put it out quickly.

A 4-year-old boy admitted to playing with matches in the closet.

An adult female was treated for smoke inhalation but refused transport to the hospital.

Three people were displaced by the blaze, and are receiving assistance from the Phoenix Fire Crisis Unit.

The boy was referred to the youth fire setter program.
