Motorcyclists Lead Local Toy Drive

Northern Liberties -

Christmas comes early to Philadelphia, thanks to 33rd Annual A.B.A.T.E (Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education) "For the Kids" Motorcycle Toy Run.

What a day it was.

An estimated 4,000 motorcyclists, led by Santa Claus and Justice Seamus McCaffery, rode from Spring Garden at Columbus Blvd to The Piazza at Schmidt's to deliver toys to The United States Marine Corp for their "Toys For Tots" program.

In the past this motorcycle event's destination was to the patients of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The motorcyclists biked from Columbus Boulevard and Spring Garden Street at noon with a police escort and proceed to The Piazza at Schmidt's Northern Liberties Section of Philadelphia, PA.

The motorcyclists donated thousands of toys for the underprivileged children throughout the Philadelphia area.

Music at the event was provided by The John McNutt Band. The run was formed in 1980 with less than thirty riders, but despite the change in size and recognition, one thing has remained constant through the year to bring the joy of Christmas to the children and a smile to their faces! Today, the program received more than 4,000 gifts including books, games and toys.
