PHOENIX -

An Arizona Red Cross volunteer landed in the Philippines early Tuesday morning to help with disaster relief operations after Typhoon Haiyan.

Glen Bradley and his wife, Julie, who is also a Red Cross volunteer, were vacationing in Paris when he got the call to pack his things and head for the Philippines.

Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on Nov. 8.

Bradley is part of the specially trained telecommunications team.

He is working with a five-person Danish team to set up a satellite-based telecommunications system.

Their project will provide Internet access, e-mail, telephone and fax connection to the disaster site.

Bradley wrote in an e-mail to the Grand Canyon Chapter:

"I'm  here on the ground and part of one of the first Emergency Response Units to arrive. Looks like we are going out to the hardest  hit areas as there is no communication (or anything else) in the areas...Will be here for a month.  No one can tell yet what the situation is. Glad I'm here."

Bradley is a retired electrical engineer who lives in Lakeside, Ariz., and has been Red Cross volunteer since 2007.
