Amputee basketball team makes inspiring visit to Milton High

MILTON, Ga. -

A national amputee basketball is showing others what people with physical challenges are capable of.

AMP1 held a fundraiser at Milton High School on Tuesday, where they made a close connection with a local standout player.

The guys on the AMP1 team say they're out to motivate and inspire.

"It doesn't matter if you have one arm, no arms, one leg, no legs – it doesn't matter," said team member Richard Ramsey. "We're out here. We're amputees and we're trying to play at a high level to make sure people know not to give up on their dreams."

The team travels across the country spreading their message that anything is possible.

"You see these guys just saying, ‘You know what, just figure it out. You're dealt a hand and you have to figure out how to play it,'" said Milton High coach Matt Kramer.

Milton High is the home court of senior player Zach Hodskins. Born with a partial left arm, Hodskins has committed to play ball for the University of Florida.

"It was amazing to see that they were going through the same things that I've been doing every day, facing adversity through everyday life," Hodskins said.

Zach said he felt a special connection to Ramsey.

"I really can relate to Zach growing up, one arm, playing sports, being the only one," Ramsey said.

Zach said, "He has the same exact arm as me – left hand missing. He shoots exactly like me. It's amazing to watch him play."

Tuesday night's game was free. There were raffles and a donation box, money from which will go to Adventure Amputee Camp. That's a camp for children ages 8 to 17 who have had amputations.
