HALO Award Winner Denzel Thompson Talks About His Accomplishment

Posted: Updated:

Nick Cannon and his company are honoring four exceptional teens who are "helping and leading others" otherwise known as HALO.

The teens are paired up with a celebrity who shares their passion. One of these teens is from the Philadelphia area. His name is Denzel Thompson, and he appeared on Good Day to talk about his experiences creating change and bettering the community.

Years ago, there was a box factory in North Philadelphia that was abandoned. It then became a trash dump, three acres of open lot. That's when Denzel came in.

"Three years we have cleaned it up and turned it into an urban garden," said Thompson, who co-founded the Philadelphia Urban Creators.

Now the garden is growing three types of lettuce, four types of kale, carrots, beets and lots of winter crops.

"It looks like a safari," Thompson described the lushness of the place. The food from the garden also goes to the community. The money received also goes to buy more seeds to expand the garden.

As part of the HALO award, Thompson was partnered with a celebrity with a similar interest. Thompson got partnered with Queen Latifah, his Halo Helper. Find out more by watching the segment above.
