Activists lock themselves to gates behind housing immigration offices

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Fifteen immigration activists have been taken into custody after they blocked gates outside a building in downtown Atlanta that houses some offices of federal immigration authorities.

Four protesters formed a human chain with their arms linked in front of two gates behind the building Tuesday. The two people at the end of each chain had a bicycle lock around their necks to lock them to the gates.

Those eight protesters and seven others were taken into custody and cited for obstructing use of entrances to a federal building and refusing to leave when ordered.

Information on possible charges wasn't immediately available.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement that it respects the rights of all people to voice opinions within the confines of the law.
