GLENDALE, Ariz. -

Detectives are submitting the findings of an investigation into the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office Wednesday.

Manuel Loreto shot and killed during a party in the early morning on Oct. 20.

Investigators believe an argument started between Loreto and another partygoer at a home near Olive and 51st Avenues.

Loreto was asked to leave the party, but allegedly returned a short time later with an assault-type rifle and began firing shots outside the home.

Police say investigators believe Loreto pointed his weapon at people attending the party.

Then, one of the partygoers, James Rakes, 39, allegedly took out a handgun and shot Loreto.

Loreto died at a valley hospital on Oct. 24 from a gunshot wound.

According to the investigation, Rakes fired his gun once during the incident.

Rakes was interviewed and released by detectives.

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office will review and determine if there will be any charges related to the possibility of a self-defense issue.
