HAMMOND, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A southwest suburban woman dead and four others were wounded early Sunday after a motor vehicle accident in Hammond, Indiana.

A 23-year-old man was driving a Geo Tracker south in the 3500 block of Sheffield Avenue at 2:14 a.m. when he crossed the center line and struck a Dodge Charger with four females inside, Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller said.

Jill Rasco, 29, of the 0-100 block of San Carlos Road in Minooka, suffered blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:17 a.m., the Lake County (Ind.) Coroner's office said.

Rasco was one of the passengers in the Charger, Miller said. A second female was ejected from the car. Two of the females suffered serious and possible life threatening injuries.

The drivers of both vehicles suffered non-life threatening injuries, Miller said. The driver of the Geo Tracker was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, Miller said.
