Jasmine Wants To Serve Her Country, Backed By A Forever Family

Posted: Updated:

Jasmine (1997) is a confident young lady with a good self-image and a positive outlook on life. She knows what she wants and articulates it well. Like many teens, Jasmine enjoys listening to music and hanging out with friends; but she also has some specific future goals in mind – including the goal of serving her country as a medical corpsman with the Navy.

Jasmine seems to already grasp the importance of self-care as well, and with that in mind we headed off to "More Than a Slash Salon" in Santa Monica for some pampering. Here owner Carla Ross was on hand to assist in giving Jasmine a fresh new look.

Jasmine has had her share of challenges, but through hard effort and a keen resiliency she has developed an overall positive manner. Jasmine is college bound and participates in her school's ROTC program. Jasmine would like to be part of a permanent family, but shared that she sometimes struggles with the issues around being adopted. We hope to help identify a family that will show Jasmine what being part of an adoptive family is really about – belonging, knowing where and with whom your "home" is, having a place where you can be yourself and be surrounded by those who love you for you unconditionally, regardless of other circumstances.

This week's Wednesday's Child is another sample of just how strong the human spirit is even in the earliest stages. Samajai (2012) has been negotiating many medical issues since his beginning, including Intrauterine Growth Restriction, Microcephaly, Goldenhar Syndrome, an ear anomaly, hypospadius, a ventricular septal defect, a cleft palate and a rib/sternum anomaly.

This week we want to make a federal case for Joseph (1998) finding a forever family, so we obtained the necessary clearances to accompany Joseph to the Los Angeles Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). And during our friendly investigation, we found Joseph to be a dynamic teen with a good bit of focus and determination for someone his age.

Los Angeles used to be a major venue for championship boxing. From the 1930s through the 1970s, there were prize fights nearly every night in metropolitan Los Angeles, primarily at the Olympic Auditorium in Downtown Los Angeles.

We're in the hazy days of August and soon it will be back-to-school for many children… or the very first day of school for kids like Khalid (2009), who will be starting kindergarten soon. But before he heads off to school, we swooped up Khalid and his baby sister Ah'Niyah (2011) for a day of fun and play at Pelican Pier at Shoreline Village in Long Beach, California.
