Christmas light installers work overtime after rainy weather

Posted: Updated:

They are working around the clock trying to get Christmas lights installed and all the wet weather we had -- definitely slowed them down.

It's hard to hang Christmas lights in a rainstorm and they only have a small window to get these lights up as most people want their lights up by this weekend.

This is the last thing Christmas light installers want to see during their busiest time of year: rainstorms slowing them down.

On Monday, they were back at it and busier than ever, trying to catch up after being forced to take a few days off.

"We're behind because of the rain, but it's been really busy.  This is the busiest year in 20 years," said Tim Snider, owner of Holiday Lights Decorating.

Snider has been putting up Christmas lights for 20 years.  He and his crew are lighting up the Biltmore, including decorating a 50 foot tree outside.

"It's crazy, so busy," he said.  "We start in middle October, seven days straight until December 15th, everyday, non-stop 10 to 12 hour days."

So when he heard there was going to be a big storm last weekend, he knew along with hanging lights, he'd have to revisit the houses where he'd already put up lights before the storm.

"We have to go back and help people fix their timers, reset their GFIs because it trips them.. it's not fun," he said.  "It's always a nightmare."

Snider and his crew are determined to catch up and they'll do whatever it takes.

"Possibly working Thanksgiving.  Some of the guys will.. longer hours."
