Deputies found 40 firearms and explosives in a San Tan Valley home after a suspect allegedly held a gun to his mother's head in the days prior.

Pinal County sheriff's office says they got a call from a man in Washington state on Saturday who said his mother's other son, 51-year-old Wesley Boles, had pointed a gun to her head a few days before.

Deputies contacted the woman and she told them Boles had pointed a gun at her and then pushed her during an argument. She claimed to be afraid of her son and that's why she didn't report it.

During a criminal history check, deputies found out Boles has had two felony convictions and isn't allowed to own a gun.

Deputies were able to get a search warrant for Boles' mother's home in the 600 block of West Oak Tree Lane.

Inside, they found 28 firearms, two class three weapons, two suppressors, two 37mm rocket-propelled grenades, five homemade explosive devices, an explosive detonator, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Plus, a closet in his bedroom was bobby trapped so that a rifle would fire if the door was opened.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety Bomb Squad responded and were able to disarm all of the devices.

Boles was arrested for aggravated assault and for being a prohibited possessor. Additional charges related to possession of explosive devices are pending.

After he was taken to jail to be booked, deputies say Boles began to have convulsions.

According to deputies, Boles had recently used meth, but it isn't known if the convulsions were linked to the drug.

Boles was released from the hospital on Tuesday and booked into jail.
