New Bill Wants To Change How TSA Handles Lost Change

Posted: Updated:

A lot of us are traveling this holiday season, and as we rush to get to the gates, we sometimes end up leaving things behind.

One of those things is money. Loose change left in the airport bins are adding up for the TSA. It turns out that passengers leave plenty of change behind at the security points, totaling to a whopping $465,000 over the last two years. The coins not claimed by passengers are supposed to pay for aviation security.

Instead of the TSA pocketing that money, a few politicians had another idea.

On Tuesday, the House voted to pass a bill that requires the money to be transferred to non-profit organizations. One of them is the United Service Organizations. The USO provides a ton of services to the nation's military service members and their families.

"There's a lot of families who don't have the ability to go to the store and buy what they need for their kids. Especially with our service members, I think that's so important. They are out fighting for our freedoms and their families don't have what they need back home." Bambi Watson, a military wife said.

The measure now heads to the senate.
