ATLANTA -

A small voice spoke up about a big issue on Wednesday. Katie Munford, 8, pleaded with metro Atlanta officials to keep the Braves stadium downtown.

Katie is from Fayetteville. She said her favorite player is Chris Johnson and that she likes to see players hit home runs.

The second-grader stood up before the Atlanta Regional Commission on Wednesday afternoon and asked a room of adults to use their influence and power in keeping the braves downtown.

"I like going to Braves games and I would not like to see Turner Field be destroyed," said Munford.

Tradition is a big part of baseball and that's a big reason Katie and her dad, John, want the Braves to stay on the south side of town. If the Braves move, they say they probably won't get to go to as many games.

"It's our daughter-daddy date night. It's a tradition. We like to go to fireworks night," said John Munford.

The Atlanta Regional Commission has little say in the deal to move the Braves from downtown to Cobb County, but it does control infrastructure such as road and bridges and interchanges.

Katie's dad is a newspaper reporter who covers city and county government, so when Katie asked what she could do about it, he encouraged her to speak up.
