Verbal brawl turns into kicks and punches at ASU vs. UofA game

TEMPE, Ariz. -

During the heated rivalry game between Arizona State University and the University of Arizona last weekend, a violent confrontation took place in the stands.

The video has surfaced on the internet and it's raising questions about security ahead of this weekend's big game at Sun Devil Stadium.

Two groups of fans -- jarring back and forth -- when the verbal jousts -- turned into kicks and punches.

Now the man who shot that video tells us exactly what was going on before and after the fight.

It happened in the upper level of the student section at Sun Devil Stadium towards the end of the first quarter.

The man who shot the video says he's not sure what sparked the fight, but believes at least the older gentleman may have been drunk.

"He was stumbling, he was heavily under the influence of alcohol.. next thing you know, he's kicking the ASU fan in the face and then after that it broke into total chaos," said Michael Williams.

It eventually cooled down, but quickly started up again.

"Then there was a bunch of punches flying.. there was a couple of girls involved and once in the video, you see them getting hit by some frat guys," he said.

Security eventually showed up.  The man who kicked the ASU student, along with his group, were kicked out.

"It was really intense at first.  I was shocked.  I can't believe my eyes and then the fight started towards me.. on top of me.. I wasn't trying to get involved... I was just trying to get out of the way and not get involved."

But it didn't end there.

"After the fight, everyone was jazzed up.. there was another U of A fan in the section.. nothing physical, but the section as a lot rowdier after the fight."

Williams says he's a fan, but may think twice about where he sits the next time he goes to an ASU game.

"I would go back to the game, but I wouldn't want to sit in the student section again," he said.  "A little too nuts.. wouldn't want to get hit with a right hook or anything."

We contacted ASU police, who tell us they are aware of the video, but that no one filed a complaint.
