DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -

A young mother of 8 is in the Douglas County Jail, accused of starving her 6-week-old baby. Jamie Lynn Bentley, 33, of Lithia Springs, faces a felony cruelty of children charge.

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office report states Bentley allegedly failed to feed the newborn, causing him to lose 2 pounds in the weeks after his birth.

The child was in the hospital for more than a week as it was re-nourished.

Neighbors said they were shocked by the allegations, as Bentley's other children appeared healthy and normal.

A judge has refused Bentley bond. In court, Bentley denied all charges.
