GLENDALE, Ariz. -

A couple from North Carolina died Sunday night when the car they were riding in was hit by a man who ran a red light, according to Glendale Police.

Police identified the couple as 71-year-old Robert Kelly and 70-year-old Nelda Kelly, from Hampstead, North Carolina. The Kelly's were in town visiting for the holidays.

Police say the accident happened when a man in his 30's driving northbound on 75th Ave ran a red light and hit a white car, occupied by the Kelly's. A female relative of Robert and Nelda was driving the car. She was also taken to the hospital and has since been released.

Police do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash, however, it has not been determined if speed was a factor.
