PHOENIX -

Governor Jan Brewer is urging people to have patience as the state works to resolve problems within Child Protective Services after it was revealed the agency failed to investigate thousands of child abuse cases.

The Governor made the comments Tuesday at Circle the City Medical Respite Care Center in Phoenix. It provides services to homeless people.

After visiting with patients and spreading holiday cheer, Brewer was adamant -- saying it's going to take time to get to the bottom of what happened at CPS and determine what steps to take.

"And the bottom line is that we're going to do a thorough investigation and we're going to get to the bottom and we are going to move forward with reforms.. we're going to try to change the whole process and I just wish that everybody would calm down a little bit.. we're all concerned about this issue, we're all concerned that the public trust has been broken and we're going to try our very, very best to restore that public trust, but there's been a lot of misinformation, there's been a lot of misreporting done and a lot of hype that was unnecessary in my opinion and I would respectfully request that we get our facts straight before we report them," she said.

The Department of Public Safety is investigating why several thousand child abuse cases have been neglected.

A dozen law enforcement agencies are assisting a new team assigned to review those cases.
