Prosecutors drop 3 conspiracy charges against Bobby Ferguson

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) -

Bobby Ferguson is currently serving a 21-year sentence for extortion, bribery and conspiracy. A new trial after a past hung jury was looming come January, but now prosecutors have dropped three conspiracy charges against Ferguson.

Ferguson still faces three weapons charges and two conspiracy counts come January. The new trial stems from a hung-jury outcome from a June trial this year. One juror could not agree on a conviction.

Why drop three conspiracy charges now?

For starters, it will cost tax payers less. More than 20 witnesses will no longer need to be called to testify and a mountain of court documents will be tossed out of the trial.

If convicted of the charges he still faces, Ferguson could be sentenced to 10 years in prison on top of the 21 years he's already serving.
