Officials: Fort Mohave inmate dies

Posted: Updated:

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - A Fort Mohave man convicted and sentenced this summer to more than two decades behind bars in an aggravated assault case has died.

The Mohave Valley Daily News reports that 67-year-old John Henry McLean died last week at the University Medical Center in Tucson from apparent natural causes. Officials say he was admitted to the hospital eight days earlier.

McLean was convicted June 6 in Mohave County of two counts of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a weapon and two misdemeanor driving under the influence charges. He was sentenced a month later to 21 years in prison for the aggravated assault charges.

At sentencing, the judge denied a request to postpone the sentencing so McLean could be released for surgery to take care of an aneurism.
