Police Shoot Knife Wielding Man In North Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:

A violent scene unfolded inside a tiny variety store on the 2200 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue in North Philadelphia. Police say a 49-year old man who they say appeared high on drugs or intoxicated pulled out a knife and threatened to stab customers. It happened around 5:30 Monday afternoon.

Police say when they got there the man refused to put down the knife after they say he was told several times. Police tased and shot the man after they say he lunged at officers with the knife still in hand.

"It appeared that this taser had no affect. He was tased two times and even after being shot by police this man still struggled and was still violent," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Police shot the man twice in the torso. He was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where he was listed in stable condition Monday night.
