Arizona mother gives birth to baby girl on New Year's Day

Posted: Updated:

It's one of the happiest moments for a young couple -- when they start a family.  Well, what if one of those children was born on New Year's day, right at midnight.

"She makes me happy, she's a girl," said Sebastian Cordova, who couldn't believe he was holding his newborn daughter -- Estrella Banner's first baby of 2014.

"We didn't really expect New Year's until doctors came in at the time and then she was here in three pushes," said Dominica Cordova.

Midnight on the dot.  Viviana was born weighing 6.5 pounds.

"The doctor got here at 11:48, and he pretty much asked us what do you want the baby to be, 2013 or 2014?" said Sebastian.

"I have high tolerance, so we waited and I didn't feel any pressure, so we waited and then I felt pressure and she said we're not going to put your legs up yet and then at 11:58 and then right at 12 she was there," said Dominica.

Viviana's 1-year-old brother was waiting for her arrival.

"I think it's going to be fun for him.. something new for him 'cause he likes babies.. he just doesn't know how to let go of them.. he loves kissing them," said Dominica.

"Me and my son.. he's very overprotective, so I'm sure he's going to be there to help me when I'm not in high school, middle school or wherever she has big brother to protect her."

Mom and dad can't wait to tell her that each and every year, the world will celebrate her birthday with fireworks!
