2 tiger cubs seized from Arizona homes; taken to Out of Africa Wildlife Park

PHOENIX -

Forget "Beware of Dog" -- these yards should have had "Beware of Tigers" signs posted on them, because that's exactly what Arizona Game and Fish officials found in the backyards of two valley homes.

Officials believe the tiger cubs, who are believed to be brothers, were brought into the state illegally.  Now they're trying to get in contact with the owner, who is in trouble for having possession of the cubs.

The tigers explored their new home at the Out of Africa Wildlife Park near Camp Verde on Tuesday.

The cubs have an interesting past on how they ended up there.

According to AZGFD, it all began with an investigation after someone alerted them to pictures of the cubs posted on social media by their original owner.  They say one cub was in a Phoenix backyard, the other was being held in Gilbert.

"It is an unusual situation.  It's certainly the only time I remember us having tigers in the Phoenix area in somebody's backyard in my 20 some odd years working in the department," said AZGFD spokesman Randy Babb.

The animals are illegal to have in Arizona as pets and could potentially be dangerous.

"Tigers are the largest cat in the world and this animal is probably going to get 600 to 800 pounds.  It's not the kind of thing you want to keep in a backyard," said Babb.

For now, the cubs -- which experts say were well taken care of -- will have the perfect location to grow and thrive with other rescued cats.

"We have extensive habitats.  The bigger we can make the habitat, the animals like it and we like it too."

There are some legal issues that will be dealt with, but it's likely those two cubs will remain at the Out of Africa park.  The owner could be issued citations.
