Part of Erie Street to close for construction for up to 4 months

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A part of Erie Street near Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Streeterville will close Wednesday and remain closed for up to four months for construction.

Erie will be closed between St. Clair Street and Fairbanks Court so a pedestrian tunnel can be built to connect buildings at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.

Eastbound traffic on Erie will be detoured on St. Clair north to Superior or South to Ohio, and then Fairbanks.

Construction will occur Monday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., and occasional Sunday work may be necessary, a statement from CDOT said.

The hospital's emergency and main entrance on Erie will remain open during construction.
