PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Scott Smith filed papers to run for Governor of Arizona Thursday describing himself as a man who gets things done.

"I think you look at how we have governed taking a massive deficit reconfiguring Mesa's government making it leaner, more efficient, more effective" said Smith.

Mr Smith says he helped pull Mesa out of a financial hole during the great recession in several ways, he led the charge to build a new Chicago Cubs Spring Training Stadium, helped attract the new Apple plant near Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, backed the expansion of light-rail, and breathed new life into downtown Mesa including new colleges from the East and Midwest

Scott Smith acknowledges as Mayor of Mesa he is not as well known statewide as some other candidates.

"Our challenge is to get the story out... once people see what we have done people will grab onto it and see it is a good story for the future of Arizona" said Smith.

The Mesa Mayor was hazy on some issues. Punting on whether he supports the DREAM act and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, not saying whether he supports legalizing same-sex marriages, or legalizing recreational marijuana.

"Like any campaign we are starting on the big time and as the campaign goes on we will address any issue" said Smith.
