Reselling fashions via social media

Forget finding your soul mate, now you can find your long lost style mate thanks to sites like Poshmark. Users can buy and sell fashion from their closets, straight from their mobile phone.

"What we wanted to do was make it super simple for women to be able to realize the value of the treasures that sit in their closet," said Manish Chandra, Poshmark founder and CEO.

"When you're about to list something on Poshmark you take four photos, upload them, write down what it is, describe what you are selling," said Rosalie Yu, a Poshmark user.

"Women are uploading more than a million dollars of inventory every day," Chandra said.

As soon as a sale is made, Poshmark will email the seller a shipping label and the item can be sent out right away. Poshers can take it one step further, by attending a posh party.

"Posh parties are teamed events that happen within the app women across the country can buy and sell at the same time together," Chandra said.

Note that Poshmark does take 20 percent of the sale.

Whitney Spinelli and Michelle Epstein, two self-proclaimed fashionistas, have created their own version of a Poshmark through the social media site Instagram. They snap pictures of their gently worn clothes and put them on the Instagram page called "Whitney's Closet 1," appropriately named after its creator.

"I love fashion, clothes, love how it's an expression of yourself," Spinelli said. "But I am a bit impulsive and indecisive so I go through clothes more quickly than other people so that's where it comes in that I sell them."

In just a few months, the Closet has gained thousands of followers. Everything is deeply discounted: from tops, to designer jeans, and accessories.

Interested buyers write "sold" under the comments and leave their PayPal email address. Once the transaction goes through, the girls pack up the piece and ship it out.

"A lot of time we will find a great sale and find out the piece won't work for us, and it's final sale, so we can't return so we give that sale to someone else who it might work for," Epstein said.

Now every woman can have a revolving closet at the click of a button.
