ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are asking for the public's help in solving a shooting incident last weekend in which five people were shot outside a party, the Courier-News is reporting.

On Jan. 12, at approximately 3:10 a.m., Elgin Police responded to the 300 block of North Street for a reported shooting. Once on scene, officers located four people who had been shot. Officers also located several spent shell casings in the area where the victims were located. All four victims had non-life threatening injuries and a fifth person drove himself to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, also with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The victims, who are all Elgin residents, had just left a large party that was held in the 200 block of North Street. Two adult female victims and one adult male victim have been released from the hospital and two adult male victims are currently still receiving medical care for non-life threatening injuries at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, according to a release issued by police Friday.

Detectives from Elgin's Police Department's Gang Crimes Unit have been actively investigating the incident. They are still interviewing several witnesses who were in attendance at the party that had approximately 80 to 100 people who were invited. It does not appear that the shooting incident was random, the release said.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the Elgin Police Department's Gang Crimes Unit at 847-289-2646. People also can provide anonymous tips or information via the crime line at 847-695-4195 or texting 847411 and including ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, along with the message and/or tip information.
