PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Police are looking for a burglary suspect who allegedly trashed a Phoenix home and stabbed the family's dog numerous times on Wednesday. The dog eventually had to be put down.

The residents of a home near 59th Avenue and Dobbins Road came home on Wednesday afternoon to find their house ransacked.

Phoenix police say holes were punched in the walls and liquids from the refrigerator thrown around the house. The suspect got away with electronic equipment and clothes.

The most disturbing detail of the burglary is that the suspect found a samurai sword in the home and used it to stab the family's dog multiple times.

The dog is a 3-year-old Shi Tzu that was in its kennel at the time. The dog posed no threats to intruders.

The family took their dog to a veterinarian, but the injuries were so bad that the dog had to be put down.

Detectives ask for the public's help in identifying a suspect or suspects in the crime.

If you have any information, you're asked to call Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.
