Passenger accused of attacking bus driver charged

We're learning new information about the bus crash Thursday West of the valley that sent two dozen people to the hospital. The bus left Los Angeles and crashed near Tonopah.

Including the suspect there were 50 people on that bus, so he's now looking at 47 counts of endangerment and 2 count of aggravated assault.  According to court documents, the suspect who tried to take control of the bus may have been on meth.

Before the Greyhound crashed in the median of I-10 west of Tonopah court records show the bus driver actually pulled the bus over in Quartzsite because passengers claimed a young man was "acting strangely".

That man and his girlfriend told the driver there would be no problems.

But about an hour later DPS says 25-year-old Maquel Morris lashed out and "kicked open" the bus driver's locked compartment, tried to take control of the bus' steering wheel, and threatened to flip the bus. That's when the bus driver called to other passengers saying "I need help to get this guy off me or he's going to crash the bus".

Passengers helped get the suspect off the bus driver just in time. The driver told officers "I thought we were going to go into oncoming traffic and hit by a semi."

Still, 24 people had to be taken to the hospital and 3 of them were injured so badly they had to be airlifted.

After he was in handcuffs, officer say morris continued to act out, even screamed out "help me" to other drivers on I-10. His behavior was apparently so erratic, firefighters on scene refused to take him to the hospital. Instead he was transported in the back of a patrol car.

According to court documents, the suspect's girlfriend told  police he had used meth earlier in the day.

DPS tells us that the girlfriend will not be facing any charges, as for Morris he is still in the hospital but is now in MCSO custody.
