9 puppies die in Chandler house fire

CHANDLER, Ariz. -

A family woke up to the bursting of a window -- a fire was burning through their home extremely fast.  They made it out okay, but their pets did not.

The call came in at 2 a.m. Monday. Flames burned through the garage.  That's when the family called the Chandler Fire Department.

"They say they woke from sleep.. some popping noise.. went to the garage door leading to the garage to the interior of the house.. they opened the door and had heavy smoke in that area," said CFD's Batt. Chief Darren Nissen.

The family of seven all made it out of the home near Ray Road and Arizona Avenue okay.  The father says he had enough time to grab only his wallet, keys and cell phone.

Nine puppies who were inside the garage did nor survive.  Though the mother and papa boxers did and are with neighbors.  Crews say the home is a complete loss.

The fire spread to the carport -- you could see the burnt cars and get a view on everything that burned inside.  Crews say the fire burned through the garage, burst a window open, burned through the kitchen and out through the back patio.

"Nothing aparent as of any kind of cutting or wood work.  They stated they hadn't been repairing the vehicles or anything like that.. they had some compressors plugged in the garage area, so we're leaning towards some kind of electrical issue that started the fire in the garage," said Nissen.

Crisis teams are helping the family.  They're still looking for a new place to live.
