Deputy-Involved Shooting In Willowbrook

Posted: Updated:

COMPTON (CNS) - A suspect was in critical condition following a deputy-involved shooting in the Willowbrook area near Compton, in which the suspect used his young son as a shield and which one sheriff's lieutenant described today as a combination of a love triangle and attempted suicide by cop.

The deputy-involved shooting happening at 11:15 p.m. Sunday in the  2400 block of East 126th Street, Deputy Crystal Hernandez of the Sheriff's  Headquarters Bureau.

"He originally showed up at his ex-girlfriend's house, her new boyfriend was at the house, he shot the new boyfriend in the face while the new boyfriend was sitting in his car," said Lt. John Corina told reporters at the  scene.

The ex-girlfriend's house was in the 2400 block of East 126th Street,  Corina said. The new boyfriend is expected to survive his wounds.

Deputies spotted the suspect and pursued him back to the home, where  "he tried to get into his ex-girlfriend's house. Luckily she had locked the  door and he couldn't get in," Corina said.

The suspect had his son, about one year to 18 months-old, and used the  baby as a shield, the lieutenant said. "He ends up with the baby in his arms  shooting at the deputies and the deputies don't return fire because of the  baby."

"The mother opens the door and takes the baby from the suspect and the  suspect ends up in a shooting with the deputies and the suspect gets shot.

The suspect was transported to a hospital where he was in critical  condition but expected to survive, Corina said. No deputies were injured.

Corina described the case  as a combination love triangle -- "If I can't have you no one will"-- and attempted suicide by cop.

Sheriff's homicide detectives, the sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau,  the coroner and the District Attorney's Office were investigating the shooting,  sheriff's officials said.

It's no secret that Microsoft has struggled in the hardware department so I can't say whether the Surface Pro 3 will be the hero Microsoft needs but I can say it is the modern computing experience users deserve. I love it and think you should too! Read on to find out why.
