Deadly Early Morning House Fire

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - One man was killed and two women suffered smoke inhalation in an early morning house fire in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The blaze inside a one-story home at 2305 S. Orange Drive was reported at 5:36 a.m., said fire department spokeswoman Katherine Main.

Fifty-one firefighters were dispatched to the scene and contained the fire to one room in the house, Main said. The flames were knocked down in 14 minutes, Main said.

The man who lost his life died at the scene, said fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey. His name was withheld pending family notification.

"The other two women who were injured were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and released," Humphrey said. "There were no transports to a hospital."

The department dispatched the mayor's crisis response team to the scene because there was a fatality, Main said, adding the team will provide counseling to the survivors.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation by the fire department, Humphrey said.
