A valley teenager headed to Harvard, a special valley program helping her to reach her dreams.
Chandler Gilbert Community College, a proving ground for many couldn't be more true for Maria Romero.

"I am studying kinesiology and I chose Harvard Medical because they were looking to integrate more Hispanics with a GPA of 3.6 and I had a GPA of a 3.84 so I was like oh perfect opportunity for me" said Maria Romero.

Especially because she'd been working a year with a special program called "si se puede" at Chandler Gilbert they help high school students excel in many areas schoolwork and social.

"She started with us when she was a senior in high school and went through an 11 week program with other seniors learning how to network public speak how to write a resume how to dress for success" said Gloria Garza-Wells.

"It gives them a sense of hope and accomplishment if they want to continue on to college they can be prepared" said Maria Romero.

Maria's ready.. Her parents were the ones who needed convincing.

"I was sad because I was like I am leaving my parents but I know its because of my education so trying to balance that out" said Romero.

A big move to the east coast, one she can't wait for but says will miss the mild winters.

"Take lots of warm jackets then" said Romero.

The Si Se Puede Foundation/Stem Robotics Program received a grant from State Farm for the amount of 25,000 dollars to help students like Maria.
