CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

This is what happens when social media and style connect.

It's virtual shopping online, not for jeans, coats or shoes, but for glasses, something you would never buy without trying on.

FOX 32's Darlene Hill explains how one company is changing that.

Fashionista's probably know all about

It's a website designed to help you find the perfect pair of glasses, without leaving your home.

Go left. Go right and back to the center.

Within seconds on a webcam will have personalized glasses ready to shop, with a scrollable 180-degree view.

Michael Cooper's face, front and sides, are being duplicated on so he can start shopping for eyeglasses and sunglasses.

Square or round frames, whatever you want to try, this technology puts the glasses on your face or will recommend a pair.

"It creates a virtual you! It creates a ditto, so it's a 3D image, it takes a video of your face, so you can actually see online what the glasses look like as opposed to going into a store," Cooper said.

Michael Cooper is one of the partners at a firm in the Loop, and too busy to go out shopping.

He needed a new pair of eyeglasses and discovered Ditto.

Now instead of trying on 20 or 30 pairs of eye and sunglasses in the store, shoppers can let the virtual image do it all.

"I think this is the way for myself--that shopping is going to go. You know when I shop online for a sweater or shirt, I'd like to be able to see what it's going to look like and I think this technology allows you to see, at the very least what glasses will look like on your face," Cooper said.

For those who can't decide what pair to purchase, the website will place snapshots of your image side-by-side so the different styles can be compared. The photos can also be uploaded to Facebook.

To pick out the right prescription, will contact each patient's doctor.

"It's pretty cool--it kind of blends in the social network and it again allows crowd sourcing and it allows other people to take a look and give their opinion. I don't have a good fashion sense but somebody does," said Cooper.

Cool glasses, cool way of shopping and here's the coolest information about this story, shipping is free.
