Westchester Medical not yet accepting ACA plans

Willy Gissen signed up for a health insurance plan through the Affordable Care Act. He said it was amazing: he saved $500 a month. He was one of more than 380,000 New Yorkers to sign up for health insurance through the exchange.

Yet much to his dismay, the public relations executive found out none of the plans offered through the state's exchange would be accepted at Westchester Medical Center, where he had planned to undergo a specialized procedure.

While many hospitals in New York are only accepting select plans offered through the exchange, Westchester Medical, formerly a public hospital, is one of the only facilities currently not accepting any of the Obamacare plans.

The hospital told us in a statement that it "is actively negotiating... with several of the insurance companies in the exchange in our region. So far, none have been willing to offer us appropriate reimbursement for the cost of providing care at the region's advanced-care resource."

The decision about whether or not to accept plans is subject to change. Many are hoping Westchester med changes its policy.
