Motorcyclist critical after crash with city garbage truck

Posted: Updated:

Phoenix Police say a driver of a City of Phoenix garbage truck was responsible for a crash between his truck and a motorcyclist Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to the crash around 12:35 p.m. near 19th St & Deer Valley Road. They found a motorcycle rider injured and off his motorcycle. He wasn't wearing a helmet.

The motorcyclist has life threatening injuries.

Investigators say the truck had exited the private driveway of the Carefree Transfer Station and did not yield to the motorcycle traveling eastbound.

Deer Valley Road was closed through the afternoon and evening while detectives investigated. They have determined that the truck driver was not impaired but are continuing their investigation into the crash.
