Through Charlie's Eyes: Book helps kids cope with their disabilities

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

A terrible case of animal abuse: a puppy used as bait for dog fights was left to die, but now he has a new life, a new home and a book that features his story, which is helping others.

This little Pomeranian named Charlie is a star and survivor.

"Both eyes were punctured.  You can see scar on his muzzle was wired closed.. holes in his tongue and covered in lacerations," said Linda Hueftlein.

He was dumped along a road.  Animal Care and Control took him in and Hueftlein adopted him.

She wrote the book about her dog a few months ago.  It's about his life and inspiration.

The book is Through Charlie's Eyes and Hueftlein brings it and Charlie to classrooms to help kids cope with their disabilities.

"To children and adults to see that he's had some bad issues and disabilities bit is not stopping him," she said.

It must be working.  The dog has his own Facebook page.

You can meet Charlie and Linda at the Tucson Festival of Books at the University of Arizona on March 16th.
