NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A Long Island couple is accused of leaving their children home alone for six days without heat or food.

Suffolk County Police say that Tulio and Maria Ayala were at a hotel while the children, ages 15, 13, 8 and 3 were left unsupervised from February 7 to February 12 in their Central Islip home.

Police say they were alerted to the situation by officials from the Central Islip Public Schools.

Tulio Ayala, 34, and Maria Ayala, 31, were arrested and charged with four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

The children, who were not injured, were released to a family member.

Growing, snapping, picking, sorting, and a little time for laughs in between take place at Homecoming Farm in Amityville, New York. The real mission is to feed the tristate area's hungry. The farm-to-table approach has been in homecoming farm's DNA since 1875 when a group of Dominican sisters from Germany immigrated into Brooklyn and then founded the farm.
