LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -

Gov. Rick Snyder says he wants the state to pump $350 million into Detroit to reduce the losses retirees will likely take in bankruptcy court, but he will not push for that aid until after Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr releases his bankruptcy exit plan.

Senate GOP Leader Randy Richardville will meet with federal Judge Rosen this week for an update on the state's role. He has told the governor lawmakers need to move on this sooner than later before the opponents are successful in calling this a bail out for Detroit.

"It's easy to say, 'This is a Detroit bailout,' for instance, which it's not. It's not even close to that. This is a specific piece of the overall problem that is geared toward helping people with pensions to be comfortable that they're not going to lose those pensions. It gives them back a majority of what they believe that they already have," Richardville says.

The Senate wants strings attached to the state aid, but Rep. David Nathan, (D) Detroit, tells FOX 2's Tim Skubick Detroit doesn't need the strings and that he may vote no if they are attached.
