SB 1062: To sign the bill or veto - what will Gov. Brewer do?

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

"I feel very good about the discussion. She is very clear on where I am coming from and that I feel very strongly about it," said former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods, who is also a friend of Gov. Brewer.

Woods says the governor, who arrived in the valley from Washington Tuesday afternoon, is planning on meeting with groups on both sides of the issue.

"She does her best to listen to everybody.  She asks a lot of questions and she makes up her own mind," he said.  "She is a very pro-business governor... she listens to business leaders and she has heard from a lot of them and that clearly has had an impact on her."

And with many of those business leaders, including major corporations calling for a veto, opponents are asking, why the wait?

"This isn't something new. It isn't something just popped up last week.  We have been talking about this bill for the last five weeks. The governor's office is fully aware of it. So why are we waiting for action from the governor when the only thing that is happening by delaying it or waiting until Friday is continuing to hurt our economy.. continuing to make Arizona a laughing stock," said State Senator Steve Gallardo, a Phoenix Democrat.

Two of the bill's three sponsors still support it.  One of them spoke out on FOX News.

"It does nothing but allow standing in court for a person who wants to make sure that their religious rights are protected," said State Senator Nancy Barto, a Phoenix Republican.  "It mirrors the federal law."

We've seen big demonstrations against the bill and at the State Capitol on Tuesday, we found some supporters.

"If I am Christian and a Satanist came to me and said I am having a Satanist wedding and I want you to cater it, I should have the right to say no," said Michael Salmon.
