WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Texas man arrested after DNA tied him to the home invasion and sexual assault of a west suburban woman in 1999 has ordered held on a $1 million bond after being extradited, prosecutors say.

Roberto Noyola-Espinal, 37, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and home invasion, both class X felonies, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.

Judge Robert Miller ordered him held on $1 million at a hearing Sunday, a statement from prosecutors said.

On Feb. 7, 1999, the then-63-year-old woman opened the patio door to her Lisle apartment after hearing a knock, thinking it was a friend.

Once she realized she didn't know the person knocking, she tried to close the door, but Noyola-Espinal forced it open and went inside, prosecutors claim.

He physically and sexually assaulted the woman, then ran away, the statement said. The woman then went to a neighbor's home and called police.

Authorities entered a DNA profile of the suspect into the federal Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS, and in October 2013, it "hit" and implicated Noyola-Espinal, the statement said.

He was extradited from his home in Texas and will next appear in court in Wheaton March 31, the release said.

"I would like to applaud the tenacity of the fine men and women of the Lisle Police Department," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the statement. "For the better part of fourteen years they never gave up in their pursuit of justice in this case."
