Corrections officer assaulted at Buckeye prison

BUCKEYE, Ariz. -

A corrections officer was assaulted Thursday morning at the Arizona Department of Corrections Lewis Complex Prison near Buckeye.

The Officer was walking through the Eagle Point Unit, a minimum security unit, when an inmate struck the officer with a small weighted bag several times.

Other officers placed the unit in lockdown and detained the inmate-suspect.

Paramedics took the injured officer to an area hospital for head and face injuries. The injuries were described as non life threatening.
