Police Seek Driver In Collingdale Fatal Hit And Run

Posted: Updated:

Police say he hit a Collingdale man, got out of his car, then left him for dead.

Now they're looking for the driver in a fatal hit and run Friday night in Delaware County.

Police received a great description of the driver thanks to a witness who watched the terrifying incident unfold right in front of her.

They also have surveillance of his vehicle which could have front end damage.

The victim's brother is begging  for the suspect to turn himself in.

"Nobody should die like that, not even a dog. Leave him on the side of the road, get out of the car and you see him laying there and you just take off," the victim's brother Chris McCaughan said.

A small amount of police tape was all that was left at the crime scene Saturday where Timothy McCaughan was killed in a hit and run.

"There is no respect for human life anymore, none at all," Chris McCaughan said.

McCaughan said his brother was walking to see a friend, when he was struck at the intersection of Clifton and Spruce, right around the corner from their house.

Described as six foot two, police released a sketch of the person they say is responsible.

"He messed up a lot of people's lives. I hope he rots in hell, to tell you the truth," McCaughan said.

A witness told police she called 9-1-1 while she watched the driver get out of his early 2000's light colored Chevy Suburban and say something to the badly injured McCaughan.

"The expletive he said I can't repeat. It was to the effect of oh (expletive), then got back in the car and drove away," Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams said.

McCaughan said he was told the woman waited with her brother while help arrived.

"She said he tried to say something but he couldn't speak. He was probably trying to say go down the street and get my brother," he said.

30 minutes later, McCaughan died at the hospital from his injuries.

News about his death spread through his neighborhood quickly.

A purple bow was placed where he was killed as a memorial.

"He loved his kids, he loved his grandkids, loved his wife. He was ready to have another grandchild any day now," McCaughan said crying, "Just get the guy that hit him man, just get him."

Police said they are continuing to go through hours of surveillance video to help them solve the case.

They also plan to reconstruct the accident scene on Monday.

If you have any information about the case, you're asked to call Collingdale Police at 610-586-0502.
