Police: Long Island man killed uncle, buried body

Posted: Updated:

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island man has been arraigned on charges he killed his 71-year-old uncle and buried the body in the woods.

Jonathan Roman pleaded not guilty Saturday to killing his uncle, John Frankowski, of New Hyde Park.

Frankowski was last seen alive on Feb. 27, according to his son, John Frankowski Jr.

Prosecutors said the 42-year-old Roman strangled Frankowski and buried the body.

Roman was arrested Friday after detectives found Frankowski's body in a wooded area behind Roman's home in Coram.

The victim's son said his father was the greatest man he had ever known.

The son said his father was to have been the best man at his wedding in three weeks.

Roman was ordered held without bail.

His attorney from Legal Aid had no comment.
