MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - A Macomb County woman faces assault charges after police say she bit off a piece of her boyfriend's ear during an argument.

The 36-year-old boyfriend, Anthony Corruso, tells Macomb Township police he and Danielle Nebelung were arguing Saturday at their home on the 49000 block of Marseilles, near 22 Mile Road and Romeo Plank. Lt. John Michalke says when the boyfriend attempted to walk away from the argument, the 31-year-old woman jumped on his back and bit off a portion of his ear.

Nebelung says she bit off her boyfriend's ear while trying to fend him off, and says that she was trying to protect herself from being raped.

Medical personnel was called to the scene and the portion of his ear was located. Doctors were able to reattach his ear, but at this time are still unsure if the surgery will be successful.

Nebelung was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Assault, which is a misdemeanor.

She was arraigned Monday afternoon.

Corruso says he plans to talk with the prosecutors about getting stiffer charges for Nebelung.

In the meantime, a judge has set her bond at $10,000. She is due back in court March 17.
